Installation and Maintenance

Most newer model tritoons come with lifting strakes so already enjoy the benefit from a high performing hull.  Older model tritoons may or may not having lifting strakes which make them a great candidate for Hydrofin hydrofoils. Most pontoon boats, new and old, do not have lifting strakes which make them prime candidates for Hydrofin foils. Once installed on the boat, there is no maintenance required for either Hydrofins or lifting strakes.

• Hydrofins: Pontoon Installations:  The installation process is fairly simple on pontoon boats for people who are handy and don’t mind working under the boat.   Hydrofin provides the center of gravity and all measurements necessary to do the job right.  
• Hydrofins: Tritoon Installations: In most cases, Hydrofin recommends a professional installation since the boat has to be lifted off the trailer.  If the boat already has lifting strakes, the strakes will need to be removed before the Hydrofin’s can be added.   
• Lifting Strakes: Lifting strakes also require a professional installation since the boat has to be lifted off the trailer and since the strakes have to be welded onto the boat.   Welding on pontoon boats is a delicate process and should only be done by a professional.

Choosing between hydrofoils and lifting strakes boils down to your boating needs and priorities. If you’re boat doesn’t already have lifting strakes and you’re looking for a smooth dry ride at cruise speeds between 20 – 45mph and want to save up to 40% fuel in along the way, Hydrofin is an excellent choice.
